Across all of our buildings and classrooms chances are that if you walk into a classroom, you will see a "Bell Ringer" posted or being discussed at the beginning of class. Bell Ringers are used to engage students in short assignments or assessments, review key concepts that have already been taught, stimulate classroom discussion or used to find misconceptions and misunderstandings students may have before the new lesson starts. Whether its a number sorting activity in Kindergarten, identifying which words are verbs in 5th grade, asking your partner to make a list of pros and cons to a new school rule in 8th grade or completing a sample math problem at the high school our teachers do a great job of starting class off with Bell Ringers to get our students focused on the learning target for the day. #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon

Congratulations to Mr. Letsche for being an Iowa Teacher of the Year Finalist! Mr. Letsche teaches Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Algebra and Foundations of Geometry at the Sheldon High School. This is his 6th year in this position for the district. Mr. Letsche is also a Leader in Me High School Coordinator, Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle leader, Assistant Track and Field Coach and Offensive Line coach at Northwestern College. When asked what his favorite part of Sheldon is he said, "My favorite part(s) would be the outstanding staff and students that I get to interact with each day! Also, I would like to have say the support that our school systems gets from community and businesses. This support allows our education system to give our students an excellent education and experience." Mr. Letsche mentioned that, "My favorite part of teaching would have to be growing relationships with students. Also, leading students to believe in themselves and to discover their full potential of who they are intended to become!" Congratulations Mr. Letsche on this honor! #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #teacher #Iowa

Biology students have been learning about DNA in class. Students performed a strawberry DNA extraction lab to see what DNA actually looks like. Many people assume that because DNA is so small, that you can't see it without powerful microscopes. But in fact, DNA can be easily seen with the naked eye when collected from thousands of cells. Through this lab students were better able to see the DNA of a strawberry and better understand the structure of purpose of DNA. #Orabs #Biology #LeadOn

Our High School Students have an option to take Community Service as a class for some of the year. These students can pick different areas in the community to do this class. Many students choose to help out at the Elementary and Middle School during this class. Some of the tasks the students help out with include helping our teachers prep class materials, work with students on homework and skills or just have a few minutes to hang out and form relationships with underclassmen. #LeadOn #Orabs
