If you are involved in an activity such as FFA, don't just list your position in the organization, but also list the activities and the number of service hours you have put in with the organization. MOST scholarships are based on Community Service Hours.

RAISEME

FEBRUARY

NORTHWEST REC & BASIN ELECTRIC POWER COOPERATIVE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM / DEADLINE: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2022

Two (2) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to dependent members of North West REC in the four districts of Ida, O'Brien, Plymouth and Sioux).  The selection process includes a combination of SAT/ACT scores, overall gpa, work experience, participation in school and community activities, a personal statement of career goals, and a written reference. In addition, there will be several $500 and $250 scholarships awarded to applicants.  Other requirements: 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • A parent/guardian must be a current member of North West REC 

  • Must be a senior planning to enroll in a full-time two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school.

  • All completed forms must be submitted no later than Friday, February 25, 2022.  Completed applications should be sent to: Scholarship Committee, North West REC, P.O. Box 435, Orange City, IA  51041.

UNIGO - SWEET & SIMPLE SCHOLARSHIP - DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 28, 2022

Unigo.com is a scholarship search engine, as well as a resource for choosing colleges. 

The Sweet and Simple Scholarship is an essay contest, based on the following question:

"Not every gift has to be expensive or extravagant. THE DREAM - NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP / FEBRUARY 28, 2022 DEADLINE

The Dream-National Scholarship is a scholarship program which is like a "Pell Grant" for highly motivated undocumented students with significant, unmet financial need.  While your GPA and test scores are considered, greater emphasis is placed on your demonstrated commitment to community service and your ability to overcome the barriers and challenges that undocumented students face each day.  

The National Scholarship Award will cover your tuition and fees up to a maximum of $16,500 for an associate degree and up to $33,000 for a bachelor's degree at one of the Partner Colleges.  The award is renewable each year - you simply have to meet the continuing eligibility criteria.

AMCOR INDUSTRIAL TRADE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP / FEBRUARY 28, 2021

The Amcor Industrial Trade School Scholarship is open to high school seniors who reside in one of 15 states, which includes Iowa students.  You must be pursuing an associate's degree in an industrial-skilled trade and have a minimum gpa of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.  The link to this scholarship is published on the Scholarship America website.  Amcor Industrial Trade School Scholarship

COLLEGE BOARD OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP / OPEN DECEMBER 7 - FEBRUARY 28, 2022

College Board's Opportunity Scholarship program is open to all students, and it doesn't require an essay, application, or minimum GPA.  It rewards students' efforts and initiative. Students can complete in six college planning steps for six separate chances at $500. When you finish all 6 steps, you'll be entered into a drawing for a $40,000 scholarship. To register go to: College Board Opportunity Scholarship The application is open from December 7 - February 28.  

MARCH

IOWA GROCERS ASSOCIATION - MARY I. FITZGERALD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM / MARCH 1

The IGEF awards $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors and undergraduate students who are children of full-time employees or $1,500 to students who are full-time or part-time employees of firms that are members of the Iowa Grocery Industry Association.  To apply, fill out the APPLICATION and follow the instructions at the end about transcripts.   

EEQUAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS PROGRAM / MARCH 1 DEADLINE

The EEqual Scholarship Awards Program is designed to highlight the incredible potential of young people in the U.S. who are struggling with homelessness, housing instability, or extreme poverty.  

The scholarship covers tuition costs, up to $8,000, for students experiencing homelessness or housing instability to attain a post-secondary education.

IOWA AUTOMOBILE DEALERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP / DEADLINE TO APPLY: MARCH 1, 2022

The IAD Foundation will award scholarships to students who are pursuing automotive-related studies (such as auto technician, body shop/collision repair, diesel, new vehicle sales, parts sales, accounting, or business administration) at a two- or four-year post-secondary institute and must demonstrate satisfactory performance in their studies.  

Requirements include: 

  1. An essay detailing your career goals and interest in pursuing an automotive career.

  2. A recommendation from a high school or college teacher, counselor or co-worker.

  3. An official transcript of grades from your high schoool.

  4. A copy of page 1 of the SAR from your FAFSA.

ALZHEIMER'S FOUNDATION OF AMERICA - ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP / APPLICATION DEADLINE: MARCH 1, 2022

Have you been affected by Alzheimer's disease?  The Alzheimer's Awareness Scholarship asks high school seniors to describe how the disease has affected their lives. Whether you've had a loved one with the disease, have worked as a caretaker or are just passionate about the cause, you can be the next generation of leaders in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease. IOWA STATE RIFLE & PISTOL ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS/ DEADLINE: MARCH 1, 2022

Two (2) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to Iowa high school students graduating in 2022. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship, participation in a shooting team or club during high school (shotgun, rifle, handgun or air gun) and a minimum 3.0 gpa (4.0 scale).

IOWA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH SCHOLARSHIPS / APPLICATION PERIOD OPEN FROM DECEMBER 1 - MARCH 1

The IUMC Senior Scholarships are designated for current Iowa High School Seniors planning to attend an IUMC college. (Colleges in Iowa include: Cornell College, Iowa Wesleyan University, Morningside College and Simpson College).  Applications and supporting documents can be submitted through the online portal.

GRAND LODGE OF IOWA MCEC TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP / DEADLINE: MARCH 1, 2022

A number of scholarships will be awarded to graduating Iowa high school seniors who plan to enroll in a mechanical or trade course of study at an accredited Iowa Community College. SEABOARD FOODS COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP/MARCH 4, 2022

Seaboard Foods will award scholarships to students in two (2) categories:

  • Students who have at least one parent/guardian who currently works for one of the following divisions: Seaboard Foods, Daily's Premium Meats or Seaboard Transport.

  • Students who are graduating from communities where Seaboard Foods operates (O'Brien & Sioux Counties) 

Requirements:

  • All Applicants must enroll full-time in a higher education institution of their choice (technical school, two-year college or four-year college) for the 2022-23 academic year.

  • All applications must be submitted online.

  • All applicants must have a complete and submitted application by the deadline of March 4, 2022.

MORNINGSIDE UNIVERSITY - NYLEN SCHOOL OF NURSING / MARCH 7

The Nylen School of Nursing at Morningside University will award a $1,000 Nursing Scholarship to an incoming nursing student.  Students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Morningside starting in August of 2022 are eligible to apply.  The scholarship criteria include your academic and co-curricular achievement and your potential for professional nursing practice.

IOWA FINANCIAL KNOW-HOW CHALLENGE / MARCH 11, 2022

Iowa Student Loan (ISL) Education Lending will award up to 25 scholarships of $2,000 each to Iowa high school seniors. The top 25 students who score highest on the assessment will receive the award.  Interested seniors should go to ISL Senior Challenge and create an account.

FLAVORFUL FUTURES - SPARKLING ICE SCHOLARSHIP / DEADLINE TO APPLY: MARCH 15

The deadline to apply for a Sparkling Ice Flavorful Future $5,000 Scholarship is March 15.  Students must be a graduating high school senior, a U.S. citizen, have a cumulative gpa of 2.5 or higher, and enrolling in a post-secondary school in the fall of 2022.  For more details and to apply: Flavor Futures Scholarship

TOWN & COUNTRY IMPLEMENT - ORANGE CITY/ROCK VALLEY/ DEADLINE: MARCH 15

FARMERS MUTUAL INSURANCE, HULL IA / MARCH 15, 2022

Farmers Mutual Insurance Association in Hull, IA will be sponsoring college scholarships for seniors whose parents are policy holders with Farmers Mutual and currently attend a local Northwest Iowa high school.  Twenty (20) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the 2021-22 school year.  Eligibility requirements include:

  • Your parents MUST be insured by Farmers Mutual Insurance of Hull.

  • You need to have a gpa of 3.0 or higher

  • You must plan to attend a post- high school educational institution in the fall of 2022.

AG STATE SCHOLARSHIP / DEADLINE: MARCH 18, 2022

To apply for this scholarship, you must be pursuing a degree in Agriculture at an accredited university, community college, or technical school. Only students from eligible schools are eligible to apply. Note: Sheldon is an eligible school.  Other requirements include:

  • You must be pursuing a degree in Agriculture at an accredited university, community college, or technical school.

WOODS FULLER SCHOLARSHIP / DUE BY: FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 2022 

Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith, PC, will award two (2) $2,500 scholarships to graduating  high school seniors attending an accredited college, university or technical school in the fall of 2022.  Requirements for this application include:

IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY - ACACIA LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP / MARCH 19 DEADLINE

The ACACIA Leadership Scholarship is designed to identify and reward outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated their ability to excel in the fields of academics, extra-curricular school activities, and community involvement.  This scholarship is available to any male high school senior planning to attend ISU.  

Up to twenty (20) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. The application deadline is March 19.

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ARSON INVESTIGATORS - REYNOL C. HENTGES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - IOWA CHAPTER / DEADLINE: MARCH 30

Applicants for this scholarship must major in a field of education promoting a career in one of the following professions or area of study: Fire Service, Fire Science, Law Enforcement, Law, Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Protection Technology or Insurance.  

You must also be a resident of Iowa and accepted or enrolled in a nationally or regionally accredited college, university, vocational/technical school.  

IAAI Scholarship

BLADES OF GREEN SCHOLARSHIP / DEADLINE: MARCH 31, 2022

Blades of Green has created a $1,000 merit-based scholarship fund for individuals seeking undergrad or graduate level education in environmental studies or related fields. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic excellence, pursuit of further study in environmental education at an accredited college or university and passion for further study.

SFM FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - KIDS CHANCE / DUE: MARCH 31, 2022

The SFM Foundation/Kids Chance provides scholarships to students whose parents were killed or seriously injured in workplace accidents while working for Minnesota or Iowa employers. Award amounts range from $1,000 - $10,000.

To qualify:

  • you must have a parent who was disabled or fatally injured while working for Minnesota or Iowa employers. 

  • must be a Minnesota or Iowa resident between the ages of 16 and 25 at the time of the application.

  • must be a citizen of the United States

  • must have a high school diploma, GED or be a high school student in good standing. Academic achievement, aptitude, extracurricular activities, number of hours you work  and community service will all be considered.

APRIL

NATIONAL SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS - THE MAUREEN L. & HOWARD N. BLITMAN - SCHOLARSHIP TO PROMOTE DIVERSITY / DEADLINE: APRIL 1

This scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior from an ethnic minority who has been accepted into an ABET-accredited Engineering Program at a four-year college/university. Multiple awards are potentially available.  The scholarship is awarded in two disbursements of $2,500 each at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters of the freshman year.  

Eligibility:

  • You must be high school senior who is a member of an underrepresented ethic minority in the field of engineering: African-American, Hispanic, Native American or Pacific Islander.  

  • You must be accepted into an ABET-accredited engineering program at a 4-year college/university.

  • Be a U.S. Citizen

Criteria:

  • GPA (You will need a transcript of your high school grades, including ACT/SAT scores)

  • Internship/co-op experience and community involvement

Diversity in Engineering Scholarship App

COOPERATIVE FARMERS ELEVATOR AAS AG PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP / APPLICATION DUE: APRIL 1

Three (3) 2-Year full tuition scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors.  Students who have a passion for agriculture, a desire to attain their educational goals and driven to succeed to the fullest ability. 

  • You must be a high school senior, graduating in the spring of 2022.

  • You must be a legal citizen or permanent resident. 

  • You must major in the AAS Ag degree at a participating technical college. 

Participating Community/Technical Colleges include: Dordt University, DMACC, Ellsworth, Iowa Lakes, Minnesota West-Worthington, Mitchell Technical College, NCC, and Western Iowa Tech.

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATORS OF IOWA SCHOLARSHIPS - TEACHER OF TOMORROW / APRIL 1 DEADLINE

This $500 scholarship is for any Iowa high school senior aspiring to teach and will be awarded on the basis of the student's career goal as an educator, academic record, accomplishments, and community involvement.  Interested students should submit: 

  • an official transcript

  • a letter of recommendation from a teacher

  • an essay explaining why you want to be a teacher

  • a bio (resume) on accomplishments and community service

  • a current photo suitable for publication.  

The award will be paid directly to the post-secondary institution of choice upon the successful completion of the first semester.

ANN GRIFFEL SCHOLARSHIP / DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2022

The Iowa Golf Association Foundation awards $2,000 Ann Griffel Scholarships to Iowa High School Senior Girls who have a passion for golf; and who intend to further their education at an Iowa institution of higher learning, whether a college, university or trade school.

HERMAN SANI SCHOLARSHIP / DEADLINE: APRIL 1

The Iowa Golf Association, through the IGA Foundation, annually awards scholarships in memory of Herman Sani.  Each recipient receives $8,000 ($2,000 per year) over a 4-year period.. Any graduating high school senior and resident of the State of Iowa, with experience or background in Golf, is eligible to apply.    

Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and leadership qualities, not on golf achievements or ability.

AGC - IOWA (ASSOCIATED GENERAL CONTRACTORS) SCHOLARSHIPS/DEADLINE TO APPLY: APRIL 1

AGC Iowa is a non-profit trade association designed to further the heavy highway construction industry in Iowa.  Currently, the heavy highway industry is facing a shortage of diesel technicians/mechanics and Highway Construction workers.  AGC is currently offering $1,000 scholarships to students going in to Heavy Equipment Operation, Engineering Technician, General Construction Programs and Diesel Technology Programs (Diesel technicians/mechanic/engines).

LOCKHEED MARTIN - STEM SCHOLARSHIP/ DEADLINE: APRIL 1

Applicants for the Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship Program must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a US citizen

  • Demonstrate financial need

  • Be a high school senior with a gpa of 2.5 or higher or a freshman or sophomore undergrad

  • Planned 4-year degree enrollment in one of the following majors:

    • Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics.

LOCKHEED MARTIN - VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP / DEADLINE: APRIL 1

Lockheed Martin has established the Vocational Scholarship for students who are pursuing an Associates Degree at a vocational-technical school, trade school, or a two-year Community College. Up to 150 awards of $5,000 each will be offered.

IOWA SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE ARTS / DEADLINE: APRIL 1

The Iowa Scholarship for the Arts supports the development of outstanding high school seniors who excel in the arts and are enrolled in accredited educational programs leading to careers in the arts.  Scholarships in the amount of $2,500 are awarded to support 2022-23 academic year tuition expenses at Iowa colleges or universities.  

Eligibility: 

  • You must be an Iowa resident, graduating from an Iowa H.S. in 2021-22, and accepted as a full-time undergraduate student at a fully-accredited Iowa college or university for the 2022-23 school year, with a major in at least one of the following areas: animation, architecture, creative writing, dance, English, fashion, fine arts, education, folk & traditional arts, graphic design, literature, media arts, music, theatre or visual arts.

SANFORD HEALTH NETWORK SCHOLARSHIP / OPENS FEB 8 @ NOON  DEADLINE: APRIL 8TH

The Sanford Health Network scholarship is a $2,000 opportunity to students pursuing a post-secondary degree in a health related field.  

  • Applicants should have an affiliation with a participating Sanford Network Facility (Sanford Sheldon)

  • Acceptance into a healthcare program at an accredited, post-secondary institution

  • Cumulative gpa of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale

"MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR AUTISM" SCHOLARSHIP / DEADLINE: MONDAY, APRIL 22, 2022

All high school students with autism attending a post-secondary program in the 2022-23 academic year may apply.  The winning application will receive a $500 scholarship to pay for their post-secondary education.  All scholarship applications need to be submitted, with all of the requirements listed, no later than April 22, 2022.

The Ag Coop Safety Directors is an organization that promotes a safe working environment  within the local agricultural organizations.  Multiple scholarships will be awarded totaling up to $3,000 for the fall of the 2022 Academic Semester.

Two scholarships will be awarded to deserving college students who are admitted to eligible programs Building/Construction/Engineering/Design and Drafting at the following schools: DMACC, Inver Hills CC (MN), Iowa State University, Iowa Western CC, Kirkwood CC, Simpson College, SE Community College, UNI, WITCC.

THE PEARL HULL FALK SCHOLARSHIP - UNIVERSITY OF IOWA / DEADLINE TO APPLY: MAY 2, 2022

Each recipient of the Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship must be:

  • of the Protestant Faith

  • a resident of the State of Iowa

  • a full-time student at the University of Iowa.

At least one of the applicants must be a member of an Episcopal Church, and at least one must be a young man who shows interest in and promise for a career in banking.  All recipients must be of good character and have a good scholastic record.

Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship

ROBERT D. BLUE SCHOLARSHIP / APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 10

The Robert D. Blue Scholarship, named after the former Iowa Governor, provides funds ranging from $500 to $1,000 to Iowa students who: 

  • demonstrate literary 

  • scholastic ability 

  • exhibit qualities of truth, courage and fellowship 

  • display moral force of character.  

Applicants for this scholarship can be current high school seniors or students already enrolled at an Iowa college or university. You must be an Iowa resident and plan to attend an Iowa college or university.  As an applicant, you will be evaluated on: your high school gpa, your financial need, two reference letters and your 500 word essay. ANNUAL PAUL ENGLE 'GLORY OF THE SENSES' HIGH SCHOOL ESSAY CONTEST / DEADLINE: JUNE 3

The Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature - Paul Engle 'Glory of the Senses' Essay contest is open for submissions. High School Seniors may write about an "Iowa Experience" drawing on a specific memory to capture the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and touches of the day.  The author of the essay judged by reviewers to be the best receives one year of free tuition to the University of Iowa. A select number of runners-up receive a $500 scholarship from the Iowa City UNESCO Sity of Literature.  The contest is based on Engle's writings, particularly his memoir 'A Lucky American Childhood'.  For more information: 'Glory of the Senses' Writing Contest

ABBOTT & FENNER SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY / DEADLINE: JUNE 12, 2022

The A & F scholarship is open to all high school juniors and seniors as well as college students.  Write a 500-1000 word essay on the following topic:

IOWA PGA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - CHARLIE BURKART / APPLICATION DEADLINE: JUNE 18, 2022

The Iowa PGA Section annually awards a college scholarship in memory of Iowa golf Hall of Famer, Charlie Burkart, PGA member for 49 years.  The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students in furthering their education. At least one high school graduate will be the 2022 recipient of a $1500 per year award for four years.   

Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf, the potential for future contributions to the game, leadership skills and community involvement, then on their academic/professional ability and financial need. Completed applications must be emailed/mailed to the scholarship committee, on or prior to June 18, 2022.

When searching for scholarships on the internet, the Federal Trade Commission cautions students to look and listen for these tell-tale signs of scholarship scamps:

  • "The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back."

  • "You can't get this information anywhere else."

  • "I just need your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship."

  • "We'll do the work. You just pay a processing fee."

  • The scholarship will cost some money.

  • "You've been selected by a national foundation to receive a scholarship" - or "You're a finalist" in a scholarship you never applied for.
