The Sheldon FCA Group is excited to be helping to distribute and fill boxes for Operation Christmas Child! Their goal is to fill at least 120 boxes, this goal is 5 more boxes than they filled last year. They are asking for your help in reaching their goal! If you are interested in helping out or have questions, please contact Mr. Letsche at the High School for more information. A rough estimate is the cost to fill a box is around $25. In addition there is also a suggested $10 donation for shipping. There are instructions inside the boxes as to what things can and cannot go in the boxes. Dr. Erin Anderson from Sheldon Family Dental Clinic in Sheldon came to talk with the seniors in Physics class on Friday about undergrad and graduate programs. Students learned the difference between the two, what you can do with a degree from both and students were able to ask any other questions they had about college. The Sheldon CAPS Program hosted the "Friday Coffee" for local Sheldon businesses this morning. The CAPS program shared more about their program and what they do. CAPS has Student-Associates that develop problem-solving and professional skills to work on real projects for real business clients. This experience along with focused development on career exploration helps prepare each of them for their purpose beyond their life as a student. CAPS is an example of how business, community and education can partner to produce personalized learning experiences that educate the workforce of tomorrow. Students in Biology did a cell membrane lab to observe its function, structure, and behavior. Students were able to learn the different concepts associated with cell membranes: Concept 1: Membranes are fluid and flexible. Concept 2: Membranes can self-repair. Concept 3: Eukaryotic cells feature membrane bound organelles. Concept 4: Proteins provide a passageway for large or electrically charged molecules. This was a great lab for students to "see" what is happening in the cell. #leadon #orabs

Some of our High School Students participated in SkillsUSA Day in Sioux City. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps provide educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education in the nation’s classrooms. Our students had a great day of hands on learning in multiple areas of trade. #leadon #orabs

Students at the Little Orab Preschool had some special visitors this week. The FFA members brought some of the pumpkins that they grew this season to the preschoolers to paint! The students had a great time painting their pumpkins! #leadon #orabs #fall

Thanks to POET Bioprocessing in Ashton for the tour of their plant this morning. Our high school chemistry students were able to travel to POET and see the behind scenes of what happens at POET daily to produce around 56 million gallons of ethanol annually. Students were also able to learn more about the careers available in this industry. Thank you POET for opening up your plant to our student's learning today. #leadon #orabs #poet

Congratulations to Makayla Van Voorst for being named a Commended Student in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. Students become eligible for the NMSC by taking the PSAT during their junior year. The test consists of 4 subtests, Reading, Writing & Language, Math no calculator, and Math with calculator. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students nationwide. #leadon #orabs

The Sheldon FCA group is hosting Fields of Faith tonight on the football field starting at 7:00 pm. This event is open to all students in middle and high school.

The High School's Life Skills Class came over to East Elementary to do a peer activity group. Students spent some time together frosting and decorating cookies. Seeing our older students form relationships and do activities with our younger students is so great. We have some great student leaders in our district. #leadon #orabs

Our Intro to Industrial Tech class was able to visit Rosenboom in town to learn more about what they do at Rosenboom on a day to day basis as well as learn more about the different careers that are available at Rosenboom. Thank you to Rosenboom for offering this opportunity for our students!

Our High School Life Skills 2 class has been diving into how to form friendships and communication to help form new friendships. The class did a joint lesson with Village Northwest Unlimited in town. They spent the class period painting pumpkins with residents of VNU. Our students and the residents of VNU were able to practice communication skills that can help form friendships with new people! This was as much fun as it was a good learning experience for everyone involved! #leadon #orabs

Our Sheldon CAPS program is hosting a partnered Chamber Coffee with the Sheldon Chamber and Development Office. The CAPS members will be at this event to explain the purpose of CAPS and what they can do to help the local businesses in our community. The coffee will be on Friday, October 21st, at 9:30-10:30 on the top floor of the Sheldon City Hall, in the community room. This will be a come and go event with coffee and light food, but we do ask that you send an RSVP email to christian.jongerius@sheldonschools.com so we can prepare for food. CONGRATULATIONS!! On September 28th, four Sheldon Golden Corn FFA members traveled to Sioux City to compete in the District Soil Evaluation CDE. The team consisted of Ethan deBoer, Koby Peelen, Joe Freeman, and Douglas Nilles. This team placed 5th out of 27 teams and qualified to compete at State Contest on October 15th in Ames. Douglas Nilles placed 10th out of 100 individual competitors and Ethan deBoer placed 14th individually! #FFA #leadon #orabs

Our Junior class was able to go to Northwest Iowa Community College today for Career Day. Career Day is a time for students to learn more about careers that they are interested in pursuing after high school. Some career areas that students got to learn more about included nursing, engineering, auto mechanic, architecture, radiology, accounting and more. Students were able to learn about 3 different careers that were of interest to them throughout the morning. Students then attended the college fair, where area colleges had more information about what programs they offer, as well as a time for students to as specific questions.
