Five of our FFA students were invited to travel to Des Monies for the annual Iowa Corn Day on the Hill that took place today. While there, they were able to witness the processes of lobbying, met with their O’Brien County Representative Zach Dieken and learn more about our state’s legislation. 8th grade is beginning a new unit, which means new vocabulary words. To learn the new words and definitions, the students made notecards, practiced independently, and then challenged friends to a matching game. The 2nd grade students have spent the last two weeks participating in March Book Madness! 8 books were selected from the top checked out picture books from the East Elementary Library. The students then read each of those books and voted on what book should move on to be this year's favorite book. Students also got to travel to the High School and participate in some basketball activities with some of the High School Basketball players! The 6th grade students just finished their unit on "Overcoming Obstacles" and have started their "Number the Stars" unit. To tie the two themes together, the students are creating podcasts that will share information about people from WWII who overcame obstacles to help in the Resistance. 6th graders wore a fraction, decimal, or percent around the Middle School for the last few days. As teachers or other students came up to them, they were asked what their equivalent decimal, percent, or fractions were. 3rd and 4th grade students will be taking the ISASPS Test in April. These are very important tests for our students and we want them to be at their best during those test. We are looking for snack donations for the snack break between tests. If you are willing to donate snacks to the school for this, please have them at East Elementary by April 1. Friday afternoon was such a fun end to our week at East Elementary! 2nd-4th graders competed in a St. Patrick's Day themed Minute to Win It activities, while TK-1st grade participated in a St. Patrick's Day scavenger hunt around the school. 8th graders at the Sheldon Middle School complete a History Day Project each year. Students research a topic in History and create a project to share their information. The 8th graders then present their projects to the public on History Day Night and are judged on their project information, display, and presentation skills. Before their presentation night, the students were able to practice sharing their projects with some of the younger students in the Middle School.
