Siouxland Conference Strong! Today Sheldon, along with other Siouxland Conference schools came together to help the Rock Valley Community School with the clean-up efforts from the flooding that filled their school. Sheldon sent two busses full of staff and students ready to help where Rock Valley Schools needed. Thank you to all of our students and staff that showed what it means to be an Orab today and helped a neighboring school and community when they needed it most. Congratulations Preston Crawley! Preston Crawley has been selected to be part of IHSSA's RISE team! This is a relatively new program for IHSSA (started just last year) in which only 12 Speech kids from the entire state are selected to be the student leadership team for the program. After a very long application process and out of the hundreds and hundreds of applicants, he was selected as one of three to represent the Northwest District. Preston, the IHSSA administrators, and the fellow RISE students will be models for performing, will have a very active role in the planning and preparation of All-State Festivals, will run the IHSSA's social media platform, will meet and plan for how to best serve the Speech students in Iowa, and many more responsibilities. Mrs. Sandbulte and Mrs. Dykstra's classes were able to celebrate all their learning this school year through camping and dinosaur day! During camping day the students used their reading skill to play charades, math skills to measure and make s'mores snack mix, addition facts bump and ten more/ten less race to 120. At dinosaur day the students read for information to get the dinosaurs in the correct groups, used their numeracy skills of one more/one less to get the sick triceratops home safely and their sentence building skills to fix the broken down jeep! Way to work hard first graders!

Ms. Glenda Barrios from NCC came to the middle school to talk with Ms. Nilson's 7th and 8th graders about her journey in life. She talked about coming over to the United States, learning English, and how she got to where she is today. She talked about how important it is for students to strive to do their best and that anything is possible if they set her mind to it. She talked about how she helps adults get enrolled in English classes, helps those who are working towards their GED or HiSET, and helps people who want to get into the workforce.
