The 4th graders at East Elementary have teacher read aloud time throughout the week. They are currently listening to their teachers read the book, "Out of My Heart" by Sharon M. Draper. Teachers take time to add read aloud time into the day to help model and improve reading skills such as reading with expression and fluency for their students. Reading aloud to students, no matter the age, can help them grow a love for reading. #leadon #orabs #reading

Dr. Driggs and Dr. Hoogland, two optometrists from Sheldon, came in and did vision screening for our East Elementary students today. We appreciate Dr. Driggs and Dr. Hoogland for taking time to do this for our students. #leadon #orabs #eyecare

Miss Sidney from Siouxland Agriculture in the Classroom, visited the second grade classrooms this week. She taught the students about foods grown and produced in Iowa. Miss Sidney comes monthly to our second grade classrooms to teach our students more about agriculture. We look forward to seeing her each month! #agriculture #orabs #leadon #2ndgrade

Our High School Life Skills 2 class has been diving into how to form friendships and communication to help form new friendships. The class did a joint lesson with Village Northwest Unlimited in town. They spent the class period painting pumpkins with residents of VNU. Our students and the residents of VNU were able to practice communication skills that can help form friendships with new people! This was as much fun as it was a good learning experience for everyone involved! #leadon #orabs

Our Sheldon CAPS program is hosting a partnered Chamber Coffee with the Sheldon Chamber and Development Office. The CAPS members will be at this event to explain the purpose of CAPS and what they can do to help the local businesses in our community. The coffee will be on Friday, October 21st, at 9:30-10:30 on the top floor of the Sheldon City Hall, in the community room. This will be a come and go event with coffee and light food, but we do ask that you send an RSVP email to christian.jongerius@sheldonschools.com so we can prepare for food. This is a great opportunity for the community to come see what the CAPS program is all about. #leadon #orabs #caps

A few weeks ago we shared the beginning stages of the Middle School "Drip Drop" art project. Each student created their own part and then, when finished combined it with the other students' completed work to create a new bigger piece of art. This project is special because the finished art piece has a little piece of each of the students' talents in it. The "Drip Drop" art project is now complete and hanging up in the Middle School. #leadon #dripdrop #art #oabs

CONGRATULATIONS!! On September 28th, four Sheldon Golden Corn FFA members traveled to Sioux City to compete in the District Soil Evaluation CDE. The team consisted of Ethan deBoer, Koby Peelen, Joe Freeman, and Douglas Nilles. This team placed 5th out of 27 teams and qualified to compete at State Contest on October 15th in Ames. Douglas Nilles placed 10th out of 100 individual competitors and Ethan deBoer placed 14th individually! #FFA #leadon #orabs

Kindergarten students went on a field trip to Northwestern College in Orange City to see the children's play, " Frank Einstein and the Antimatter Motor" The students loved the play and they even got to do a meet and greet with the actors in the play, which the students thought was AMAZING! After the play the students went to the park to eat lunch and play with their classmates before heading back to school for the afternoon. #leadon #orabs #kindergarten

The AM and PM Preschool classes took a field trip to Solsma's Pumpkin Patch today! Our students got to peel flint corn to see the different colors that corn can be, we even found one that was orange and black for the Orabs! Students also got to walk through the patch, learn how pumpkins grow and change colors, learn about the different types of pumpkins, touch some pumpkin vines and pick out their own little pumpkin to take home with them. Students in TK started their "Fall" unit this week. Students have been learning about all of the changes that happen during fall. These students are participating in center time where they can learn a little more about their unit topic in different ways. Students rotate to different activities to learn more about fall as well as practice skills they are working on in class. #leadon #orabs #TK

Our new middle school band director, Mr. Carlson, took our 6th grade band members out to the football field and introduced them to marching techniques for the first time this week! It was also a beautiful day to get outside. #band #orabs #leadon

Our Junior class was able to go to Northwest Iowa Community College today for Career Day. Career Day is a time for students to learn more about careers that they are interested in pursuing after high school. Some career areas that students got to learn more about included nursing, engineering, auto mechanic, architecture, radiology, accounting and more. Students were able to learn about 3 different careers that were of interest to them throughout the morning. Students then attended the college fair, where area colleges had more information about what programs they offer, as well as a time for students to as specific questions. Thanks to Northwest Iowa Community College for offering this opportunity for our area students. #leadon #orabs #careerday
