Up next is Neil Patel from the class of 2022. Neil lives in Brooklyn, New York and is a student at New York University Tandon School of Engineering. Neil shared his thoughts about the Sheldon Community School District, "The SCSD allowed me to be involved in Marching Band, Cross Country, Fall Musical, Speech, and Summer Theater, strengthening my work ethic. These activities gave me the challenging experiences I needed to adapt to NYU's rigorous course load and overcome any unforeseen challenges. I also greatly appreciate the teachers and staff at SCSD for providing a welcoming and friendly environment and making my experience at SCSD enjoyable. As a recent graduate of SCSD, I am excited to discover additional ways SCSD has impacted me as I continue my education at NYU and eventually enter the workforce as a Civil Engineer." "Footloose" takes the stage this weekend as the last show of the 2023 Sheldon High School Summer Theatre season! This is a show that will having you singing and dancing along. Last week our 2nd-8th grade volleyball campers came together to learn new volleyball skills and improve on older skills while having a blast together. Amanda shared her thoughts about the Sheldon Community School District, "I moved to Sheldon the start of my sophomore year. To most moving in the midst of high school is scary. For me, I had found my friend group by lunch time on the first day! Everyone was very welcoming & friendly to me. Sheldon school system helped shape me to stay positive as a person & always be a friend to strangers, because they might just turn out to be our best friends! I enjoyed the school system so much that my husband (Jared Fedders bc) and I decided to raise out family here in Sheldon!" Up next is Rachel Abele from the class of 2015. Rachel lives in Bloomington, Minnesota and works as the Environmental Specialist at Cameron’s Coffee. Rachel shared her thoughts about the Sheldon Community School District, Growing up going to the Sheldon schools really taught me a sense of community because of how close everyone is and the support the community shows when someone needs it. The knowledge I got throughout the years also served as a great base for my undergraduate and even masters degrees and I feel that the education I received prepared me well for higher education and just life in general. The schools also provided a number of extracurricular activities that have left me with great memories such as golf and summer theatre and plenty others that I’m grateful I had the opportunity to participate it. Sheldon saw me grow up and was there for all the goods, bad, and extremely awkward middle school years which must’ve been a tough four years for all involved." I feel so fortunate to have enjoyed a wonderful educational experience from East Elementary all the way through Sheldon High School. Every step of the way, wonderful, talented and caring teachers and staff have positively impacted my life. Our school buildings and athletic facilities are still some of the finest you'll find anywhere. No other public school in the state, and maybe even nationwide, has a summer theatre program that is anywhere near our caliber. Wade A Den Hartog is a graduate from the class of 1992 and is currently living in West Des Moines and working as a Financial Advisor. Wade mentioned that, "My SCS experience was one that encouraged leadership, values and pride in our community and school. I appreciated the dedication of the teachers and staff to challenge students to be the best that we could be. The relatively small class sizes allowed us to work together and also explore our individual passions and interests. There are many memories and experiences that I look back on with pride and also learning moments. Today, I can't imagine growing up anywhere else and I appreciate the moments at SCS."
