6th graders are continuing to learn more about the different systems of the body. Right now they are learning about the circulatory system, including blood, blood vessels and the heart. After learning what makes up blood (plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets) the students made a model using corn syrup, red hots, mini marshmallows and cookie sprinkles to represent what is all in their blood. The students then had to draw their models, labeled all the parts and described the function of each part. Next up they are going to be learning how the blood moves through the chambers of the heart and to the lungs. Way to go 6th Grade! #leadon #science #orabs

The High School's Life Skills Class came over to East Elementary to do a peer activity group. Students spent some time together frosting and decorating cookies. Seeing our older students form relationships and do activities with our younger students is so great. We have some great student leaders in our district. #leadon #orabs

The district computer science team participated in their first workshop with NewBoCo last week. They dove into the Computer Science standards and worked on how teachers can implement these things into their everyday context areas. Teachers had fun learning and trying out these devices. We are excited to see how these things will be used in our classrooms. #leadon #orabs #technology

1st Grade Students had a reward day on Friday for their great FAST Reading scores this fall! As students arrived to their classrooms, they received their ride bracelet and a set of Mickey or Minnie mouse ears. Students spent their day full of Disney themed learning activities. Students went on a virtual tour of all the Disney world parks, played Disney Trivia, sorted Disney nouns, helped Buzz Lightyear shoot down alien attackers in a math subtraction game, practiced spelling with Lightning McQueen's letter lot, and students helped the 101 Dalamations escape Cruella in a heart word reading dash. Such a fun reward day in 1st grade for their hard work and focus on their tests! #leadon #orabs #1stgrade

Kindergarten students have been working hard to learn and understand their numbers. Students have practiced writing, counting, using numbers to represent the days of the month and how many days of school we have had. The students are also starting to get the basic understating of adding to and taking away from numbers 1-10. Great work Kindergarten! #leadon #orabs #kindergarten

The 4th graders at East Elementary have teacher read aloud time throughout the week. They are currently listening to their teachers read the book, "Out of My Heart" by Sharon M. Draper. Teachers take time to add read aloud time into the day to help model and improve reading skills such as reading with expression and fluency for their students. Reading aloud to students, no matter the age, can help them grow a love for reading. #leadon #orabs #reading

Our Sheldon CAPS program is hosting a partnered Chamber Coffee with the Sheldon Chamber and Development Office. The CAPS members will be at this event to explain the purpose of CAPS and what they can do to help the local businesses in our community. The coffee will be on Friday, October 21st, at 9:30-10:30 on the top floor of the Sheldon City Hall, in the community room. This will be a come and go event with coffee and light food, but we do ask that you send an RSVP email to christian.jongerius@sheldonschools.com so we can prepare for food. Our High School Life Skills 2 class has been diving into how to form friendships and communication to help form new friendships. The class did a joint lesson with Village Northwest Unlimited in town. They spent the class period painting pumpkins with residents of VNU. Our students and the residents of VNU were able to practice communication skills that can help form friendships with new people! This was as much fun as it was a good learning experience for everyone involved! #leadon #orabs
