The 6th grade students just finished their unit on "Overcoming Obstacles" and have started their "Number the Stars" unit. To tie the two themes together, the students are creating podcasts that will share information about people from WWII who overcame obstacles to help in the Resistance. 6th graders wore a fraction, decimal, or percent around the Middle School for the last few days. As teachers or other students came up to them, they were asked what their equivalent decimal, percent, or fractions were. 3rd and 4th grade students will be taking the ISASPS Test in April. These are very important tests for our students and we want them to be at their best during those test. We are looking for snack donations for the snack break between tests. If you are willing to donate snacks to the school for this, please have them at East Elementary by April 1. Friday afternoon was such a fun end to our week at East Elementary! 2nd-4th graders competed in a St. Patrick's Day themed Minute to Win It activities, while TK-1st grade participated in a St. Patrick's Day scavenger hunt around the school. 8th graders at the Sheldon Middle School complete a History Day Project each year. Students research a topic in History and create a project to share their information. The 8th graders then present their projects to the public on History Day Night and are judged on their project information, display, and presentation skills. Before their presentation night, the students were able to practice sharing their projects with some of the younger students in the Middle School. Mrs. Fox's life skills cooking class made a delicious treat to enjoy together. Each week the students pick out a something to make. Students follow a visual recipe and work together to make something to enjoy. Preschool students have been learning about Dinosaurs this week. Preschoolers dug for fossils, used playdough to make different dinosaur shapes, researched different dinosaurs and more. The Life Skills students have been learning more about mental health, how to improve their mental health, and what to do if you feel like you need help. The students had a guest speaker come to class to talk more about the Student Assistance Program (SAP). SAP partners with a variety of school districts to provide support to students. The Student Assistance Program is free and designed for assessment, brief counseling and referral. Counselors help explore issues, offer coping skills, as well as recommendations referrals for services outside of the SAP sessions. Kindergarten students have been practicing reading, writing, and completing their CVC words. This student is using Seesaw to practice building CVC words on her own. Seesaw is used in many of our classrooms to help individualize our student's learning, as well as provide quick feedback for our students, parents, and teachers.
