4th Graders got a little competitive in their reading review game today.
Students played Gimkit as a way to review some of the skills that they had been working on in reading class.
Gimkit shares questions on each of the student's screens, once answered correctly they earn "money" and depending on what game setting in Gimkit, the money can be used for various things to help move the individual student to the leader board in the class.
Students love getting to review with this game.

The second graders at East Elementary led this month's all school assembly!
Students did a reader's theater to give examples of how to make the right choices when it comes to school work and balancing all of the other things they like to do.

3rd graders went on a mystery scavenger hunt during library class.
Students practiced looking for mystery books throughout the library.
They've practiced searching for books before, but this time Mrs. De Zeeuw and Mrs. Freymann added a twist—students had to hunt in the dark with flashlights to find the correct books.

Students at the Little Orab Preschool had some special visitors this week.
The FFA members brought some of the pumpkins that they grew this season to the preschoolers to paint! The students had a great time painting their pumpkins!

East Elementary is continuing to focus on the book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," the book by Stephen Covey to help our students develop their leadership skills throughout the year.
Second grade students practiced Habit 2, "Begin with the End in Mind" with groups this week. Students were asked to create a paper chain out of one piece of paper, that reached a specific distance. Students were not given instructions on how many circles they needed, rather they were to work as a group to decide how they could create a paper chain, that met the requirements.
Our students worked well as a groups through this activity practicing their leadership skills.

Our Kindergarteners did a Spooky Math Activity where they had to count spiders in tens frames that were hidden around the room.
Students loved getting to hurry around the room looking for the spiders!

Our Kindergarten classes at East Elementary got to go visit the Fire Station for Fire Safety Week.
Students learned about what to do if there was a fire, how to get help, see the fire trucks and firefighters and they even got to use the fire hose and spray out a pretend fire. Our students had a great time learning and seeing all of the things at the station.
Thanks to the Sheldon Fire Department for letting our students come visit the station!

The High School's Life Skills Class came over to East Elementary to do a peer activity group.
Students spent some time together frosting and decorating cookies.
Seeing our older students form relationships and do activities with our younger students is so great.

The second graders are finishing a unit on different roles they can have in their homes, at school, in their community, and in the future.
As a culminating activity they spent some time cleaning up the grounds around East Elementary as a form of community service.

1st Grade Students had a reward day on Friday for their great FAST Reading scores this fall!
As students arrived to their classrooms, they received their ride bracelet and a set of Mickey or Minnie mouse ears. Students spent their day full of Disney themed learning activities.
Students went on a virtual tour of all the Disney world parks, played Disney Trivia, sorted Disney nouns, helped Buzz Lightyear shoot down alien attackers in a math subtraction game, practiced spelling with Lightning McQueen's letter lot, and students helped the 101 Dalamations escape Cruella in a heart word reading dash.
Such a fun reward day in 1st grade for their hard work and focus on their tests!

Kindergarten students have been working hard to learn and understand their numbers.
Students have practiced writing, counting, using numbers to represent the days of the month and how many days of school we have had.
The students are also starting to get the basic understating of adding to and taking away from numbers 1-10.

Dr. Driggs and Dr. Hoogland, two optometrists from Sheldon, came in and did vision screening for our East Elementary students today.

The 4th graders at East Elementary have teacher read aloud time throughout the week.
They are currently listening to their teachers read the book, "Out of My Heart" by Sharon M. Draper.
Teachers take time to add read aloud time into the day to help model and improve reading skills such as reading with expression and fluency for their students. Reading aloud to students, no matter the age, can help them grow a love for reading. #leadon #orabs #reading

Miss Sidney from Siouxland Agriculture in the Classroom, visited the second grade classrooms this week.
She taught the students about foods grown and produced in Iowa. Miss Sidney comes monthly to our second grade classrooms to teach our students more about agriculture.

The AM and PM Preschool classes took a field trip to Solsma's Pumpkin Patch today!
Our students got to peel flint corn to see the different colors that corn can be, we even found one that was orange and black for the Orabs!
Students also got to walk through the patch, learn how pumpkins grow and change colors, learn about the different types of pumpkins, touch some pumpkin vines and pick out their own little pumpkin to take home with them.
Preschool had such a fun day at the Pumpkin Patch!

Kindergarten students went on a field trip to Northwestern College in Orange City to see the children's play, " Frank Einstein and the Antimatter Motor"
The students loved the play and they even got to do a meet and greet with the actors in the play, which the students thought was AMAZING!
After the play the students went to the park to eat lunch and play with their classmates before heading back to school for the afternoon.

Students in TK started their "Fall" unit this week.
Students have been learning about all of the changes that happen during fall.
These students are participating in center time where they can learn a little more about their unit topic in different ways. Students rotate to different activities to learn more about fall as well as practice skills they are working on in class.
