East Elementary School

Daily reading groups are a big focus at East Elementary. Students participate in whole group learning and assignments, but each day teachers will pull different reading groups to work with their students in a small group setting. Small-group instruction provides opportunities for differentiated learning. With the smaller number of students, students have more chances to answer questions and read aloud. No evening activities at Sheldon CSD today, December 15th. The elementary concert will not take place tonight, Dec. 15th in the HS Auditorium. Girls/Boys Basketball @ Sibley-Ocheyedan scheduled for tonight has been postponed. Make-up date Thursday, December 22.

Reminder that the Elementary Christmas Concert for 2nd and 4th grade is tonight! December 15 - 2nd & 4th grade Concert, 7pm HS Auditorium Please have your musician dress up for this event. Students will meet at 6:30pm the night of their concert. A high school classroom will be assigned for each section to use as a homebase. This will be where you can drop off and pick up your child. This is also where they can keep their hats and coats. The youngest grade will begin promptly at 7pm. Kindergarten through 4th Grade students at East Elementary are learning about simple acts of kindness in Mrs. Hennings' Guidance Classes. Students have been talking about how they can make someone's day better by a simple gesture, smile, talking to someone that looks sad, or even sending someone something to brighten their day. Students are currently working on making holiday cards for the soldiers that are unable to make it home for the holiday season. Their hope is to make them smile and be happy, even if they can't make it home during the holiday season. #LeadOn #Orabs #Sheldon #actsofkindness

Our district had the opportunity to have 2 student teachers during the first semester of the school year. Ms. Klein was placed in our 4 Year Old Preschool this fall and will transition to one of our 1st Grade classrooms after Christmas. Mr. Ziemen did half of his placement in our 5th Grade Science Class and then transitioned to our 7th and 8th Grade Math classes. Both have been great additions to their classrooms and have learned so much about teaching and connecting with our students. The snow and cold might be sticking around, but it has given our students a lot of fun at recess. The 4th graders worked together to build a snowman during their recess time! Preschool students did a Star Search during their Space Study. Students had to walk around the preschool building and find stars with letters on them. They then colored that letter on their paper. Last night our 1st and 3rd Graders had their Winter Concert. So many great voices and songs were heard last night! We have a talented group of performers. Kindergarten spent time with some Gingerbread focused activities last week. In Math, students focused on counting and identifying buttons on their gingerbread man, as well as did a graphing activity on the different colors of buttons the gingerbread men had. In writing, students wrote about what they would name their gingerbread man, where he/she would live and who he/she would be running from. At the end of the week students got to go on a scavenger hunt to look for the gingerbread man around East Elementary.
