8th Grade Students have started their Science Fair preparation. The Science Fair process lasts six weeks and the students are now into week four of the journey.
The first three weeks were spent 1) determining their central question to be investigated and formulating an hypothesis, describing how they expect the project to turn out; 2) designing a method that can be used to FAIRLY test each of the samples they choose to test; and 3) researching their topic to find out about the science concepts, principles, and laws that will dictate and help determine the final outcome of their testing.
Students are truly in the driver's seat as they develop the central questions for their project, in addition to formulating an hypothesis and designing a method for testing.
Science Fair is off to a great start this year!

The Middle School will have the Book Fair set up next week in the Library!
This is a great opportunity to get your students some books while supporting the school with each purchase.
The book fair will be open during the school day and during conference times.

Middle School Student's are preparing for Red Ribbon Week next week.
One of the things the students did in preparation was to design posters to put around the school for Red Ribbon Week.
Students posters were then judged for the top 4 winners. This year's Red Ribbon Week Poster Winners are: Margot Michels, Alexis Cannoy, Claire Nilles and Theresa Nilles.
These and all of the posters created by our students will be up around the school next week!

7th graders are working on developing fraction sense in math class.
In class they used pictures to help them determine the smallest, biggest, those close to half, and then ordered them. Being able to "see" the fraction amount helps our students' better understand the variety of fractions that they will be working with throughout their fraction units.

The 7th graders in Mrs. Woelber's TA spent some of their TA time talking about Habit 5: Think Win-Win.
After the discussion students decided to color and write notes for residents of our local assisted living and senior living centers! The students hope to “fill their buckets” when the residents get their pictures and notes!

The Sheldon FCA group is hosting Fields of Faith tonight on the football field starting at 7:00 pm.
This event is open to all students in middle and high school.

Our Middle School P.E classes have gotten to enjoy being outside the past few weeks with the different P.E units they are covering.
The 7th and 8th Grade P.E classes finished up their Disc Golf Unit with a trip to Hills Park to play Disc Golf!

6th graders are continuing to learn more about the different systems of the body. Right now they are learning about the circulatory system, including blood, blood vessels and the heart.
After learning what makes up blood (plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets) the students made a model using corn syrup, red hots, mini marshmallows and cookie sprinkles to represent what is all in their blood.
The students then had to draw their models, labeled all the parts and described the function of each part.
Next up they are going to be learning how the blood moves through the chambers of the heart and to the lungs.
Way to go 6th Grade!

Mrs. Vogel’s class visited Old Jerry McVreeman’s farm last week.
They got to feed the animals, rode on tractors and had a snack in the grain bin!
It was a great day for the kids to experience and learn a little but more about farm life.

The 8th graders have been focusing on proportions in math class.
They did an application activity where they tagged "fish" in an effort to find the number of fish in their “Lake”.
Students were able to better see and understand proportions through this activity.

Happy World Teacher's Day to our teachers at Sheldon!
We have an amazing staff that goes above and beyond to help our students succeed, have fun, learn and be safe while they are in our buildings.
Today and EVERYDAY, we thank you!

A few weeks ago we shared the beginning stages of the Middle School "Drip Drop" art project. Each student created their own part and then, when finished combined it with the other students' completed work to create a new bigger piece of art.
This project is special because the finished art piece has a little piece of each of the students' talents in it.
The "Drip Drop" art project is now complete and hanging up in the Middle School.

Our new middle school band director, Mr. Carlson, took our 6th grade band members out to the football field and introduced them to marching techniques for the first time this week!
It was also a beautiful day to get outside.
